Asus launches R558UQ laptop with Intel’s 7th-gen Kaby Lake processor

NEW DELHI: Smartphone maker Asus has launched its first mainstream notebook, R558UQ in India. According to the Taiwanese company, R558UQ is the only mainstream notebook in the country to feature the next-gen USB type-C port along with NVIDIA’s GeForce 940MX GPU.
The laptop comes in two processor variants – Core i7 and Core i5, priced at Rs 59,990 and Rs 48,990 respectively. The laptop is available across leading online and offline retail outlets already. While on the one hand, the Core i7 variant is available in Glossy Dark Brown colour, on the other the Core i5 is available in Matt Golden, Glossy Dark Brown, Red, and Dark Blue colours.

The R558UQ (Core i7) model is powered by Intel’s seventh generation ‘Kaby Lake’ Core i7 processor and can be customised with up to 16GB RAM. As a default, the laptop comes with an 8GB DDR4 RAM. In terms of graphics support, NVIDIA’s GeForce 940MX and Intel’s HD graphics 620 form the base.

The above variant sports a 15.6-inch LED Baklit screen with full-HD (1080×1920 pixels) resolution and a 16:9 aspect ratio. On the storage front, the model comes with a SATA 1TB hard drive (5400rpm) and a VGA resolution camera.
In terms of connectivity, the variant includes Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v4.0, USB 2.0, USB 3.0 port and a USB Type-C port along with HDMI and a LAN jack. The laptop has built-in speakers and a microphone as well. It is backed by a 38WHr 2-cell Li-ion battery.
The Core i5 variant shares almost the same set of specifications except for the processor and RAM. This variant is powered by Intel’s seventh generation ‘Kaby Lake’ Core i5 processor along with a 4GB DDR4 RAM. It can support up to 12GB RAM as well. Softwares, such as Asus Smart Gesture, and Asus Splendid apps come preinstalled with the laptop.
