MUMBAI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s battle against black money has now taken a new turn of nudging Indians into digital payments. Not everyone is comfortable with this change, coming as it is only weeks after a data breach in a private bank’s ATM processing system. If you are one of the digi-sceptics, don’t be alarmed: There are ways and means to limit the damage in the online world, even if your worst fears come true.
You do not need to take a dive off the deep end to test the waters. Your journey into the world of electronic payments can start with something as low as a few rupees using a digital wallet. E-wallets are actually regulated by the RBI as prepaid instruments into which you can load cash. For those who have never used net-banking or cards online, money can still be loaded onto the wallet by paying cash to a merchant who has partnered with the wallet company , or you can ask a friend to transfer digital cash in exchange for currency .The wallets can be used for low value transactions such as auto or cab rides and even making small ticket purchases.
